Tree mulching

Was this your group’s first Green Team?

Yes - We enjoyed giving back to our local parks and working outside.

How does your organization’s mission relate to the volunteer work you've done with Chicago Parks Foundation?

As a company deeply rooted in Chicago, APCO is committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve. Volunteering with the Chicago Parks Foundation aligns with our values of inclusivity, civic engagement, and community investment, allowing us to give back in a meaningful and hands-on way.

Highlights from the day:

Some of the highlights of the day were when a community member gave us a tour of the garden beds and showed us everything growing in the garden. They were also especially proud of the butterfly photo area, which was such a fun addition to the space.

I also loved learning how community members helped design the playground for local students and even designed the dragon sculpture for it. It was inspiring to hear how much influence they have over what the park includes and offers and made me want to get involved in my own neighborhood park and servicing my local parks. Seeing all the daycare and school-aged children running around and enjoying the park really brought it to life. It made me wish I had a park like that growing up!

I also really appreciated the brief history and introduction that Triana gave our group, was so interesting to hear about the history of the Park Districts and their governance, and that Skinner is the second oldest park in the city!

It felt great to spend some time outside and work with my hands. I love Chicago’s parks and really appreciate the opportunity to help keep them beautiful.
