Why Hunter B. Runs for the Parks
Our “Why I Run for the Parks” blog series highlights members of our 2026 Team ChiParks charity running team.
The Chicago Parks Foundation has been a proud Bank of America Partner Charity since 2013, with teams running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon (October) and Bank of America Chicago 13.1 (June) with us annually. New for 2026, we also have a small group of Team ChiParks going to the Marathon de Paris (April)!
These dedicated runners choose to make their miles extra meaningful by running on behalf of a charity. Since our start, Team ChiParks and their supporters have raised over $2.5 million for the parks. This is the Chicago Parks Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser, bringing in unrestricted private funds to help our public parks thrive. We are thankful to each and every member of our team, and we’re excited for you to get to know them!
Meet Hunter, heading to Chicago from NYC to run his second marathon!
I ran my first half marathon in May 2025, followed by the New York City Marathon in November 2025. The Chicago Marathon will be my second full marathon and a big milestone for me as I continue to challenge myself as a runner.
WHAT DOES RUNNING THE 2026 BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO DISTANCE SERIES MEAN TO YOU?
Running the 2026 Chicago Marathon feels like a celebration of growth, consistency, and community. After completing NYC, I wanted my next marathon to be tied to something bigger than just a finish time. Chicago represents the opportunity to push myself again while running with purpose and giving back along the way.
WHY TEAM CHIPARKS?
I’m running with Team ChiParks because parks play such an important role in making cities healthier and more connected. Living in Brooklyn, NY has really shown me how valuable these green spaces are, and it’s made me want to support a cause that feels relatable and meaningful. Having access to safe, well-maintained parks can truly change people’s lives, and I love that ChiParks focuses on equity and access for all communities. It’s motivating to know that every mile I run supports something so tangible and impactful.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT PARKS?
While I’m not from Chicago, parks have been a huge part of my life as a runner and city-dweller in New York. I train regularly in parks like McCarren Park and along the East River, using them as places to reset, move my body, and disconnect from the pace of city life. They’ve been essential to both my physical and mental health, which makes supporting Chicago’s parks feel especially meaningful.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TRAINING?
My favorite part of training is the routine and mental clarity it brings. Long runs especially have become a time to reflect, decompress, and build confidence. There’s something incredibly rewarding about showing up consistently and seeing progress over time.
OTHER THAN RUNNING, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
Outside of running, I enjoy strength training, exploring new neighborhoods, trying new restaurants, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. I’m also really interested in creative industries like fashion, events, and brand experiences.
I’m excited and grateful to be part of Team ChiParks and to run for a cause that helps make cities more livable for everyone. Thank you to everyone who supports, donates, and cheers us on along the way — it truly makes a difference.
