KSP’s Director of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, Manisha Kaul, is a member of the Chicago Parks Foundation Board of Directors. Manisha organized her colleagues for a park cleanup to give back and celebrate Arbor Day.
Was this your group’s first visit to Ward Park?
Our group has frequently used this park as it was in the vicinity of our old office on Erie and Franklin. For over 25 years members of our office have enjoyed this space for lunch breaks, a short walk and commutes!
How does your organization’s mission relate to the volunteer work you've done with Chicago Parks Foundation?
We take responsibility for the welfare of all life. As such, our decisions consider social innovation, equity, and dignity for all.
As a firm dedicated to creating a positive impact on the environment, receiving the JUST Label, issued by the International Living Future Institute, affirms our efforts to implement sustainable and equitable practices in our designs and operations.
"Our firm was built on the belief that we're stronger together, with a studio that bolsters collaboration and is an open source of ideas. The JUST Label reflects not only where we’ve been, but where we’re going - toward greater transparency, equity, and impact." - Mark Sexton
Highlights from the day:
I think a highlight was the fact that we managed to mulch ALL the trees in the park and completely use up all of the mulch that had been dumped near the park entrance. We hustled and worked as a team to make an impact. I was really proud of our group and pleased that we made a meaningful contribution. I also enjoyed the wildlife (woodpecker!) we glimpsed and grateful passersby who stopped to thank us along the way. It was unexpected but kindled our spirits.

YOU CAN PITCH IN, TOO!
Thanks to the generous support of our Green Teams, the Chicago Parks Foundation equips thousands of volunteers with free supplies for our Pitch In for the Parks citywide program.
Our Green Teams calendar is filling up for the 2026 season - reach out today to schedule your event, or join our alternative Pitch In for the Parks effort!
You can also join us with a gift or become a Chicago Parks Foundation Member! Your support helps make vital park programming like Pitch In for the Parks possible. When you invest in the parks, you invest in the communities who love and depend on them.
