Bequests and Estate Planning

One way community members have ensured park stability for this and future generations, is including the Chicago Parks Foundation in estate plans, bequests, beneficiary designations, charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts. For more information about the options listed below, and how to designate the Chicago Parks Foundation in estate plans, please contact us at 312.742.4781.

One of the simplest ways to give to the CPF is including the foundation in your will through a bequest. A bequest can be a specified dollar amount, a percentage of the total value of your estate, or be contingent upon an event or existence of a certain circumstance. If you already have a will, a simple codicil prepared by your attorney can arrange for your contribution.

Beneficiary Designations

One way you may choose to contribute to the Chicago Parks Foundation is through beneficiary designations. This is done by naming the CPF as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, a donor advised fund, a bank or brokerage account, or an individual retirement account (IRA).

Charitable Gift Annuities

Another option for supporting the Chicago Parks Foundation is to participate in the Charitable Gift Annuity Program. In addition to the quarterly payments you receive from the CPF, you will also receive an income tax charitable deduction in the year you make your contribution as well as reduced capital gains taxes (if appreciated securities are donated).

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Charitable remainder trusts are individually managed trusts which generate an income stream for beneficiaries, with the remainder of the donated assets going to one or more nonprofit organizations. This is done by naming CPF as one of the selected nonprofit organizations.
