Looking Back: “Saturday in the Park”

Summer may be nearing its official end, but the Chicago Parks Foundation sure had a fun-filled season! One of our favorite new partnerships was with Chicago-based, women-owned cleaning products company, Jelmar, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its popular product, Tarn-X Tarnish Remover.

Coincidentally, this summer also marked Chicago the Band‘s 50th anniversary. On June 24th, Jelmar organized “Saturday in the Park,” asking their social media followers to take part in a scavenger hunt of sorts in Grant Park. From 11 am to 4 pm, participants had to find a large “golden” trumpet hidden near Buckingham Fountain. If they uploaded a photo of themselves with the trumpet to Facebook along with the hashtag #TarnXRocks, they were entered to win a pair of VIP tickets to Chicago the Band’s anniversary concert on July 12th. CPF enjoyed greeting the many fans throughout their search, enjoying a beautiful summer day in the park.

“For 50 years, we’ve kept the vision of my grandfather alive at Jelmar,” said Alison Gutterman, President and CEO of Jelmar. “We wanted to celebrate our 50-year milestone with all of those who have helped us get to where we are today, including our employees, our customers, and our fans. What better way to do that than to bring people together in Chicago’s Grant Park near the famous Buckingham Fountain?”

As a part of the celebration, Jelmar made a generous $10,000 donation to CPF to help support our commitment to keep Chicago’s parks and green spaces clean.

“We see a natural synergy with Jelmar as a Chicago-based company with a vested interest in keeping our beautiful parks clean and looking their best,” says our own Executive Director, Willa Lang. “Jelmar’s donation to CPF shows its dedication to Chicago and its parks. We wish them a happy 50th anniversary, and many more.”

Thanks for your support, Jelmar!
